Bloco 3

Descartes e o racionalismo moderno. Construção do conhecimento numa base racional, impacto teórico que influencia toda a modernidade. As “Meditações Metafísicas” e suas “Objeções e Respostas”. O ceticismo cartesiano.

Bloco4

Leitura da “Carta Prefácio” dos “Princípios de Filosofia”. Apresentação de músicas contemporâneas a Descartes.

  1. Suzanne Mekking disse:

    Dear Dr. Maia Neto,
Please allow me to introduce myself as the Publisher for Brill and in this capacity responsible for the Philosophy program.

We have been provided with a journal proposal on “Skeptical Studies”, an idea related to the recent foundation of the International Society for the Study of Skepticism. We are pleased to include here below a draft of the Aims and Scope and preliminary Editorial Board for your perusal.

We would be most grateful if you would comment on the following:

    i. Does the Aims and Scope suitably cover this area?
ii. Does the proposed Editorial Board provide a good international coverage of the subject area? Are there any colleagues/peers/young outstanding scientists missing from the proposed Editorial Board and whom you would recommend to participate?
iii. What do you think will be the strategic niche of “Skeptical Studies”, helping to distinguish it from other existing ‘competitors’?
iv. Will the proposed journal best serve the readers’ needs?
    v. To help us weigh different values, what is your best idea of the potential readership, audience subsets, and the size of annual potential readership? What main media outlets, societies, journals would we need to engage to adequately reach its various parts?

I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

    Kind regards,

    Suzanne

    ===========================================
Aims, scope and rationale for the launch of the journal of “Skeptical Studies” (SKEP)
As the first international journal entirely devoted to philosophical skepticism, Skeptical Studies will publish high-quality academic articles and discussion notes on any field of research relevant to the study of skeptical thought. The journal will serve as a forum for debate and exchange of ideas among leading international scholars. The wide range of areas covered will include the history and significance of ancient, medieval, and modern skepticism; epistemological skepticism; ethical skepticism; and religious skepticism. Although committed to the standards of clarity and rigor of so-called analytic philosophy, the journal will be open to a variety of methodologies and traditions.
Skeptical Studies will also contain reviews and critical notices of major books on skepticism, and will organize book symposia on recent ground-breaking works. It will on occasion publish special issues devoted to current lively debates on specific topics or authors.
The Rationale: Nowadays, the great number of essays dealing with skepticism is published either in collective volumes or in journals devoted to the history of philosophy or to contemporary analytic philosophy. Surprisingly enough, there is no specific international forum for discussion of skeptical thinkers, arguments, and positions. Therefore, this journal would be a most welcome addition to the existing philosophy journals, thus filling an important gap in the market.

    Editorial Structure
The Editors-in-chief will be Duncan Pritchard (Chair in Epistemology at the University of Edinburgh, UK) and Diego E. Machuca (Researcher in Philosophy at the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas, Argentina). There will also be a Book Review Editor.

Likely Members of the Editorial Board:
    Julia Annas (University of Arizona)
    Richard Bett (Johns Hopkins University)
    Richard Fumerton (University of Iowa)
    Don Garrett (New York University)
    John Greco (Saint Louis University)
Christophe Grellard (Unversité Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne)
Anna Maria Ioppolo (Università di Roma “La Sapienza”)
    Richard Joyce (University of Sydney)
    Peter Klein (Rutgers University)
Thomas M. Lennon (University of Western Ontario)
Paul Moser (Loyola University of Chicago)
    Dominik Perler (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin)
    Walter Sinnott-Armstrong (Dartmouth College)
