The selection process for the PPGCP/ UFMG takes place in the latter half of every year, under a specific notice published at the beginning of the process.
In general, selection for the master’s program consists of four steps: (1) reading comprehension test in English; (2) evaluation of resume and research project; (3) written test of knowledge in political science; (4) oral examination of the candidates based on their research project.
The doctoral selection has three steps: (1) reading comprehension test in foreign languages; (2) evaluation of resume and research project; (3) oral examination of the candidates based on their research project.
The selection process is conducted by committees composed by three professors. Candidates for the master’s and the doctorate can be interviewed through videoconference. The number of seats is defined annually. In 2016, 16 seats were offered for the Masters’ and 16 seats for the Doctorate.
